Dr Glynis Wright MBE
Background
Until March 2023, Dr Glynis Wright was one of Leicester’s most renowned and respected senior divorce lawyers. After that, she left the legal profession to become a specialist divorce coach.
Dr Glynis Wright had entered law later in life. She recognised quickly that divorce and breakup were areas requiring a specialist approach, so she set up her own bespoke family law firm, Glynis Wright & Co Family Solicitors and Mediators in 2010. The firm grew into one of the most well-known and specialist family law services in the area.
Dr Glynis additionally undertook training as a family mediator and then encouraged lawyers in her team to become family mediators and collaborative specialists too.
The firm, Glynis Wright & Co became a multi award-winning service owing to its dedication to supporting clients through divorce and breakup and its commitment to resolving cases using alternative dispute methods, such as mediation, wherever possible.
In 2020, Dr Glynis sold her successful family law firm, Glynis Wright & Co to Midlands based firm Nelsons LLP where she continued to lead her team of family lawyers until leaving Nelsons in March 2023.
Achievements
Dr Glynis was elected as President of the Leicestershire Law Society in 2019 and served on the Executive Committee of the Law Society for 7 years. More recently, Dr Glynis was granted an honorary life-time membership of the Leicestershire Law Society for her dedication to the profession over many years.
In 2020, Dr Glynis was named in the late Queen’s New Year Honours List and received an MBE from Princess Anne. In July 2023, Dr Glynis was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Leicester in recognition of her services to law and business. In February 2024, she was granted the Freedom of the City of London.
Glynis Wright & The Pulled Both Ways Project
Dr Glynis founded the award-winning Pulled Both Ways project alongside local Charity Soft Touch Arts. Pulled Both Ways is a creative film project which works with school children who are supported to make films highlighting the need to protect children caught in the middle of toxic breakups. The films can be found on this website and have been viewed by many parents fighting over residence or contact of their children. The films, which are told from the child’s perspective, are geared towards bringing down the heat on the parental dispute and encouraging more child-centred out of court agreements to be made.
The Alternative Divorce Company
Dr Glynis is following a personal passion in setting up The Alternative Divorce Company. She has felt for years that people going through divorce and breakup need more than just a family lawyer. They need a bespoke service that can straddle many areas of expertise from the legals to the therapeutic. Every case is different. For this reason, Dr Glynis embarked upon a journey to collaborate with a number of experts that she trusts from differing fields to offer their services to couples under the umbrella of The Alternative Divorce Company.
Now
Dr Glynis herself is a Certified Divorce Coach offering specialist divorce coaching to individuals to provide them with all of the support and help they need at any stage of their divorce to achieve a dignified, thoughtful and amicable breakup with positive long term outcomes for them and their children.
