Why do I need a divorce coach?

There are four really sound reasons why divorce coaching might be just what you need if you are facing divorce or breakup.

Financial Saving

With the best will in the world, most couples set out to breakup amicably. But emotions like anger, frustration and even revenge often take over when you find you have different views about how the care of your children will be managed post-separation or who should get what out of the financial pot.

The result of this is that you can both spend significant sums of money emotionally venting in lawyer meetings raging about your other half rather than focussing on settlement.

A divorce coach works with you to stop that downward spiral. We support you with techniques to help you remain calm and in control during this difficult process meaning you use up far less time with your lawyers. Since our hourly rates are much lower than the lawyers’ rates, this means we save you money.

Emotional Cost

Divorce is known to be one of the most traumatic experiences that a person can go through if it is not handled well. The time it takes to emotionally recover from a divorce or breakup increases exponentially if the divorce was managed in a toxic, litigious and hateful manner.

A divorce coach has tools to help couples manage and overcome those inevitable triggers that can lead to entrenched positions of anger or revenge, or, on the flip side, overwhelm or grief – all of which cloud your judgement and clear thinking and delay settlement.

Children

It is so important to protect your children from any harmful impact of a hostile breakup. All too often children get exposed to the fighting between their parents and find themselves at the centre of custody or contact disputes in and out of court. This can lead to breakdown in contact between a child and a parent and sometimes also with their wider family members like grandparents all of which is incredibly hard for children to cope with.

A divorce coach will support you to find ways of keeping communication channels open with your ex wherever possible and to have dialogue about your children in a way that is constructive and civilised. We can help you think through your parenting plan and we can stay with you after the divorce to support you to co-parent well together and avoid future disputes arising.

Doing it the Right Way

It makes absolute sense to manage your divorce or breakup by being the very best version of yourself possible. You will want your children and those around you to remember that you went through the process with dignity, reaching agreements with your ex without the need for court proceedings and avoiding the all too common downward spiral of mutual hostility and grievances.

A divorce coach is there to support you to remain clear-headed and pragmatic and to help you find your way through the maze of breakup by focussing on the bigger picture of a future where you enter your new life without carrying battle scars from a toxic divorce and with happy children who remain at the centre of both of their parents’ love.

What is divorce coaching?

Dr Glynis offers completely confidential coaching sessions to help you work through the biggest challenges you are likely to face during the breakup process.

The process does not require you AND your spouse or partner to engage in coaching. Coaching is there to support YOU, to help you handle the difficulties that are likely to arise along the journey for you. But, there can be no doubt that if it IS possible for both of you to mutually pledge to work through your breakup journey carefully using your coach to help you to avoid conflict, dispute and hostilities and to protect your children from emotional harm, that is even better!

Dr Glynis has been trained to apply specialist techniques and tools designed purely to help you achieve a breakup that leaves you and your children as emotionally and financially intact as possible, and in the best possible shape for starting your new life. All of Dr Glynis’ divorce coaching is bespoke because each client experiences breakup in a different way and has different needs and challenges.

Dr Glynis will be your thinking ally throughout the breakup process. She can support at any stage of breakup, including those who need clarity about whether they want to end their relationship, all the way through to those who have gone through the process but are finding they are unable move on in their lives. It should not be under-estimated how important it can be to have a safe haven where you can express yourself openly without fear of judgement or criticism, a private space where the enormous challenges of breakup can be aired honestly, focussed on intently, worked through with good intentions and managed pragmatically and cognitively to avoid the conflict and triggers that all too often derail couples from a civilised breakup.

Some common challenges for people are:

Rage, anger or bitterness towards your ex that makes you see red constantly
Overwhelming fear of what the future holds
Acute anxiety about finances and what you will get out of the pot
Intense panic about having to face a court hearing
Draining hostilities with your ex over how to share the care of the children
Grief that stops you moving on
Inability to be productive at work because you can’t focus on anything but the breakup
Becoming entrenched and stuck or on the flip-side being tempted to walk away and throw the towel in

These are just examples but they are all huge issues that very few of us are equipped to deal with. For most of us, this is the first (and hopefully the last) time we have ever faced such challenges. To assume that we can manage on our own without specialist support is, in most cases, unrealistic and actually prevents a swift, amicable settlement being accomplished no matter what best intentions you may have.

How many divorce coaching sessions will I need?

Everyone is different. Some clients only need coaching for one or two issues that are really getting in the way and preventing settlement, others have a whole host of personal challenges that are overwhelming them and will need many sessions throughout the divorce and breakup process. There are no rules about how many coaching sessions you should have, or over what period of time.

The coaching will be designed to work entirely around your individual needs. Dr Glynis can offer single one hour coaching sessions or she can offer blocks of 6 or 10 sessions all lasting an hour each. A discount applies to any block booking package.
