Working with The Alternative Divorce Company

In many divorces, a key concern is how to fairly manage and distribute pension benefits within the financial settlement.

Pensions are often complex, and what may appear to be a straightforward asset to value is rarely so. This is where actuaries play a crucial role, acting as impartial assessors to explore equitable distribution options, helping couples, their solicitors, and the court reach a fair outcome.

We are delighted to be working in collaboration with The Alternative Divorce Company to bring an expert solution to pensions in divorce.

Actuarial services supporting divorce

WBR Group has built a specialised actuarial team who provide distinctive and creative advice to family lawyers and their clients.

Whatever the options discussed for financial settlement in divorce, it is always beneficial to have a professional actuary explain the pension issues as there are often complexities which may have unseen consequences, as well as creative solutions. They will also be able to make the situation clearer and help clients make informed decisions based on facts.

This might include looking at the outcomes to show exactly what each party will receive monthly and if that meets their income requirements. They can suggest whether it may be an option for a client to become a member of their ex-partner’s scheme, which can give the new member pension entitlement from the day they join. They know how to take into account age differences between spouses, the approach to Government sponsored schemes and how
pensions can be shared to produce similar incomes.

In contrast to larger and often more costly actuarial consulting firms, WBR Actuarial prioritise value for money alongside a commitment that ensures our clients have a clear understanding of our services and the benefits they can expect. The team are fully independent and this part of the WBR business is overseen by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.
