ADC Affiliate – Belderbos Solicitors

At Belderbos Solicitors, we believe in resolving family disputes with empathy, understanding and respect.
We share with The Alternative Divorce Company a simple yet powerful belief that family matters are best resolved through understanding and cooperation, not conflict.
It is inevitable that emotions run high during a separation or divorce, but a neutral and safe environment can very often help ex-partners make sensible decisions together about their futures.
A relationship breakdown can be a traumatic experience. We see our job as providing advice and support that ultimately ‘delivers a separate but intact family’.
Particularly where children are involved, this must be the desired outcome where possible, and it is best achieved, in our view, away from the more confrontational setting of a court process.
Through services such as mediation, collaborative law and negotiation, we use our specialist legal expertise to practise a more compassionate, client-focused approach to family law. Indeed, it is an ethos and a way of working that are ingrained in everything we do.
Our team are actively involved with Resolution, a nationwide community of family justice professionals who work with families and individuals to resolve issues in a constructive way.
It was why we were delighted to become an Affiliate partner of The Alternative Divorce Company; our companies have a shared aim wherever possible to reduce the pain and cost of divorce or separation.

James Belderbos
Director, Founder
Director James Belderbos is a trained mediator and collaborative lawyer and registered as a mediator in Rutland with the Family Mediation Council (FMC). James offers in-person mediation and online mediation services in Oakham and throughout Rutland and Leicestershire. He said: “As a family lawyer, you see daily how challenging a relationship breakdown can be. But you also see how much more positive an experience it is when the separating couple work together and outside of the courts. It puts you in control. Instead of a judge making those big decisions about your family’s future, you can determine the path you want to follow.
“Family mediation is a much kinder and more compassionate environment for discussing the long-term needs and emotions of you and your children than the bleak setting of a courtroom. You’re in charge of the process and an understanding reached in mediation can be a much less expensive and less stressful solution. A better suited outcome to the long-term needs of you and your family.”
